Micro-Activity #1: Introduction Isaac Diaz

Something that caught my attention was the fact that we won’t be using Blackboard for this class, I quite honestly had a hard time trying to figure Open Lab and how to post even though you provided a guide and think Blackboard is more user friendly. Another concern of mine is the fact of how many emails we receive from open lab whenever someone post or replies to your post. as far as the syllabus looks pretty fair to me, though I honestly thought this class was going to be just one day at week instead of posting or doing writing assignments 2 or 3 times in a week which might be in conflict with other classes one might be taking. I like the fact that some of our assignments will be peer reviewed and that we will have the chance of redoing our work. another interesting fact is that our “Final” is a paper and a portfolio and makes sense since this is a writing class.

Concerning taking classes online, it is a bit of a problem given that interaction with the instructor is remotely and sometimes that in itself, could present a challenge. It’s not the same being in a classroom were you could have a closed-ended teacher questioning or a face to face to go through things you might not understand or a student initiates, teacher answers kind of format were you are given some kind of individual attention.

    Hey Isaac,
I see that we both have the same concern about using OpenLab. I am not a fan of how we receive emails from each students about their activity on OpenLab such as when posting or commenting on a peers post. I do not believe their is a purpose of receiving the emails. Maybe their is an option where we can turn the notifications off?

Hey Rex I don’t think there is a turn off button for that sadly I know it could get annoying it happened all semester long last semester

Hey Rex and Andy. Joining you on this one. I agree, so many complications down the road. Hopefully the IT team of the OpenLab will respond to the general concerns of its users. In the end of the day it affects the overall performance and result in wrong data, like “online education led to underperformance, etc.” I bet the teachers are struggling, too. To respond within a rigid timeframe is also a challenge.
