Stacey Deleon, Final Reflection,1st Draft.

During this semester what I have learned about myself as a reader and a writer that I work better when I plan everything out. Having homework before the major assignment helped me a lot. As we meet the developmental needs in order to paint the bigger picture such as major assignments.

This semester helped me develop as a writer and reader by gaining confidence. I gained confidence while sharing my work on a platform such as webwork where other students can read and give you feedback on your work. It is very helpful when classmates give feedback. It allows us to absorb and take advice that’s going to improve my work. Also being able to read my classmates’ work and reflect on it.

In English class this semester I learned how to write several different forms of writing such as our first major assignment which was the speech. When writing the speech I struggled to get my message and main ideas out. I also struggle to catch my audience’s attention. It was my first time writing a speech and I felt as if I was missing the structure of my speech. Now while looking back trying to revise my first major assignment which was my speech I noticed how bland my speech is. While revising my speech I wanted to fix certain mistakes such as not addressing my audience directly. When writing my speech I want to address my audience as if I was actually talking to them directly and engaging them in my opinions and beliefs towards my topic. Another thing I learned in English class this semester is how persistent and determined I can be towards my work when I’m writing about something that catches my attention. Writing about child labor in my second major assignment was something I really enjoyed.

What did you enjoy about this reflection?
Stacey’s reflection was straight to the point and included many examples how the course has helped her become a better writer by mentioning specific assignments from class that she enjoyed. I relate to her reflection because she also talks about confidence when it comes to writing. I am very insecure with my writing so I understand the importance of emerging confidence in writing.

What is one thing the writer has learned about themselves as a reader and writer?
Reading her reflection, Stacey has learned what her struggles are when she writes. Such as, catching the audience’s attention or putting her ideas into words.

How has the writer changed over the semester as a reader and writer?
Stacey expresses how she has learned a plethora of different writing styles and that has pushed her out of her comfort zone in writing. She also learned that she is incredibly motivated to write when she actually shares a passion toward a topic.

How will the writer use the skills they’ve learned in college and/or community?
I believe Stacey will use the different writing styles we learned, especially MLA format. She also mentioned her appreciation for the peer reviews so I am sure she will use that in her future.

What suggestion(s) do you have for the writer for their final draft of this piece?
I would suggest to Stacey to give a word of advice to future students taking this course and to talk about how she will use the skills she learned from class in future courses.
