After finishing my speech on an issue affecting my discourse community, I found it easier to express my ideas than an academic essay. I believe I found it easier because I was able to share my experience since it was about a discourse community I was involved in. Reading the A.O.C and Douglass speech helped me understand how a speech is able to target an issue. I wanted my speech to have the power that I saw in the speeches we read in class. At first I had some trouble finding a DC to write about. After closely analyzing my everyday life I was able to find DCs and pin point an issue that hidden but affected a lot of people in my community. I was surprised to find many articles online about my issue. I have learned that writing a speech is not hard when you are writing about something you have experience in.
