Paraphrase: In this quote the author is talking about the days and sorrows he remembered. He is talking about the bleeding children that he remembered. He cannot forget those days.

Paraphrase: Here the author is talking about slave trading which was (in contradistinction to the foreign slave-trade). High authorities of the nation were involved in this slave trade.  

Explain: It is important to his argument. This used to be happened on the coast of Africa. With this kind of work many people pocket millions. This horrible work has been done by the American institution.
