1. The Office
I am one of 20 Operations Specialists inputting data into Excel reports at our cubicle farm. Despite the mundane work routine (or perhaps because of it) we are very close for a group of colleagues. There is a palatable sense of “us against the workload”, a value that makes us a highly productive team. Outside of work, we go on group outings (no bosses allowed), and have a very active chat group. The chat is so full of Operations Specialist lexis, an outsider would have a hard time deciphering what any of us mean.
  2. The Study Group
Around a dozen or so Nursing majors in my class decided to work together for a chance to survive Calculus. The sense of community is clear, as we are tightly united in wondering how trigonometric functions could ever help us in the field of Nursing. Our goal is to help each other study.
  3. The Halytskas
Though most of my family are not in the US, we keep in touch daily. This is our group therapy, a group where any member can turn for help or support. We never miss our weekend Skype calls and the English-Ukrainian lexis we use is practically a brand new language.
