for podcasts the writing is relatively free form, it doesnt seem like the participants write very much ahead of time except for the questions. the questions, however are quite detailed and often elicit equally detailed responses. since this is a purely auditory medium, the questions and answers use visually descriptive language and sound effects are often played to help immerse the listener. radio interviews and podcasts need to be easy to listen to and the interviewer helps the interviewee tighten up answers by asking follow up questions and actively listening almost in the listeners place. the organization needs to follow a logical flow in order to make a coherent story. in the interview with Louise Erdrich the point may be to promote her new book, but the interview also serves to inform the audience about the history of U.S. government interaction with the Native American population. “or those of you who don’t know your story as well, tell us just a bit about your own background and your connection to this – the Turtle Mountain Band of the Chippewa.” this quote shows how the interviewer is just as important as the person they are interviewing and instrumental to the listener’s understanding of the content.
