Before class on Tuesday, students will…

  • Continue doing research for U2! Be ready with at least ONE source to share with the class on Tuesday.
  • U1 Reflection: Write a short reflective paragraph (150-200 words) about the process of writing your education narrative. In your paragraph, discuss whether reading “Shitty First Drafts” affected your writing process. If so, how? If not, discuss how you approached the assignment.
    • This is one of the low-stakes writing assignments (worth 30% of your overall grade). Title it Full Name, U1 Reflection and post it under the category U1 Work by 11:59PM next Tuesday.

During class, we will…

  • Read/write our first citation for the U2 Writing Assignment, so be sure to bring your laptop/tablet and be prepared to work!
  • If you are still unclear about your research question, come talk to me!

Before class on Thursday, students will…

  • Continue researching/writing for U2, and bring notes and questions to ask the librarian!

During class, we will…

  • Meet in front of the library to take a tour and learn how to use the library’s databases to enhance our research.

    I was nervous and afraid when I was first given the assignment of writing an essay. I would stare at a blank page of writing hoping to appear for a long period of time. I was hindered in my progress and my creativity was limited by the expectation to create flawless writing right away. But after reading Shitty’s first draft article, I developed a new perspective on first drafts. I also realized that the goal of a first draft is not perfection but rather idea exploration, trying out various formats, and letting ideas flow free onto the paper.
