In the three passages of Douglas, Malcom X and Jiang’s piece they all had similarities for example all of them were faced with lack of education such as reading and writing and how they had overcome these obstacles in a time of illiteracy. With Douglas he overcame it by reading with his mistress and learned about slavery in which infuriated him, with Malcom X he learned to read though copying down the dictionary and reading the books in the prison and in Jiang’s piece she talked about the illiteracy in china and how she saw the Mona Lisa she decided to pursue art.
