Though all three passages talked about different life experiences they all share the same common goal which is to inform people about themselves and why they do what they do or how they got to that point in life. It is also important to add that all three authors talked about their education. For example in Jiang’s narrative she told a very heartwarming story about her and her grandmother and the environment they lived in where education was not accessible to them. Jiang spoke on her experience and it was clear to Jiang that while they knew very little they still had the overall ability to question and so they did. They questioned art but more specifically the Mona Lisa, Jiang would later go on to conclude this story by expressing how she is now able to professionally analyze the Mona Lisa being that she now has an art and design background. In Frederick Douglas’ memoir he spoke in detail about his hardships with reading and how in the end he found a way to work around it and still learn how to read in a world where it was wrong for him to obtain an education. In Malcolm X’s memoir he spoke about his love for reason and how he constantly got better at it while he was serving time in prison. In the end he stressed that had he not been in prison he probably wouldn’t have learned how to read as well as he did at the time of him writing his memoir. While each passage is different all three of these authors struggled at some point with accessibility to education and persevered in the end.
