After reading the Bunn essay there were many new things I learned. There were many techniques I didn’t know about and questions that I’ve never thought about. There wasn’t just one specific moment that I found useful in fact I found many. One of those moments was Allen Tate’s metaphor of reading as if we were architects. Like Bunn stated we need to know every bit of information if we are going to read like a writer. An architect should know what they are doing and should look at other pieces to build a foundation. This is also what us as reader’s need to do. We essentially need to examine the details and then try to understand and dissect it. Another thing that I found interesting was when previous students gave their piece of advice and the questions that should come up when reading. I found this extremely helpful because I know that not everyone is the same type of reader. Therefore, the students advice gave me different point of views to look at. They sort of give you a head start on how to think and what questions should we ask when reading. Overall, the whole essay was helpful in the fact that we are now knowing of what reading like a writer means. it will definitely help me read much better and hopefully write as well.
