Reading all the pieces by Douglass, Malcolm X, and Jiang, I saw very similar scenarios throughout them. Although they were written in different genres and used different types of words, they still all fall into the category of educational narrative because in their stories they all talked about how a person or situation impacted their way of learning. In Jiang’s story, it’s shown that her grandma was a big impact for her and how asking questions helps you be curious and learn. A big impact for Douglass was the mistress because she was nice to him although he was a slave and she taught him the alphabet. Once learning that, he wanted to learn more and he did by making friends with little boys. Something that impacted Malcom’s way of learning was going to prison where he spent 7 years and taught himself how to read. He learned a lot just by reading books every chance he got.
