About Me

My name is Nathalie Quito Flores and I am currently a college student at City Tech, majoring in Communication Design.

I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. As I got older I explored more materials and the drawing turned into painting. However, I also grew into the fear that I could not make a living off of art. Like many of you, when I got into college I jumped around from many major options, like math to science, to even nursing. As disinterested as I was, I kept convincing myself that “this is what I need to do to bring food to the table”. However, as my interest declined, so did my motivation, and overall grades. After two years of experimenting in academic courses, I realized this path was not for me. I revisited my hobby of painting and decided to make it into my career.

In Communication Design, I’ve had the opportunity to learn other forms of design like Typography or Graphic Designing. As much as I prefer painting traditionally, I realize now that there is only room to grow and develop more skills through other forms of design. Whether it be in  photoshop, or back to drawing with a pencil, I can only find new and better ways to improve what I already know. Although I will always look towards and up to talented painters like John Singer Sargent or Diego Velazquez, I can further appreciate other techniques of design like animation or  photography. I am still not certain as to what job I am specifically aiming for, but just as I found my way back to painting, I am sure I will eventually find that too. For now, I look forward to creating more work, whether it be an oil painting or a logo or poster.
