08 Homework

Complete your Midterm self-portrait in the LoPoly Technique by adding color to create shape and volume.

Each file should be saved according to the following naming convention. i.e., 08_LastName.ai.

Due Date(s)

  • 08 Homework (Midterm) is due – 9:00 am the Thursday before class. Students should email as required by the professor.

    Question 01 –

Why do you think that the low poly portrait should only be made up of triangles, rather than other polygons? If the portrait is made up of only four-sided shapes, rather than triangles, how do you think it would impact the overall design?

I think low poly portrait should only be made up of triangles if a tridimensional image is not needed.. If it is made up of other polygons like four-sided shapes, rather than triangles the process would take longer. The triangles would not allow to create a complete tridimentional effect, but three sides shapes are easier to trace, load the image with, view, and edit. This can be possible as they are lightweight size. Also, because of their less complicated mesh. Triangles are less detailed than other polygons shapes, so that makes the shading process less complex. Triangles give images a smother and less textured surface as well. Four sided polygons would take a lot of time to arrange and calculate. There would be more elements, including sides and shades to manipulate so the image can be well defined.

    Question 02 –

When would it be useful to add multiple fills to a particular shape in a design? Give an example of a specific object (ie., Clothing, Nature, Food, etc.)

Multiple fills to particular shapes can be applied with the appearance panel tools when well-defined shapes are needed for those that have super-sharp edges at any scale. That happens with many details needed to create characters in the video gaming industry. As illustrators usually have to draw and color their ideas not only manually but also digitally before the designs are created. Before motion graphic effect is added to a character, the illustrations and artwork parts need to be completed. Illustrator is very helpful when it comes to adding different fills to define shapes and create a great 3-Dimenssional effect on the character design.
