Interface and Workspace

Today, we will launch Adobe Illustrator and navigate the interface. We will set up custom workspaces that meet our needs for an effective workflow.

Each week we will review homework assignments from the previous class. Students will participate in reviewing material and offering suggestions for improvement for their cohort. This week we discuss the position of panels and the custom workspaces saved by students. Students will be asked to explain their choices. The workflow will be discussed.


Lab assignments are done during class time. This week we will practice moving panels and setting up workspaces for your individual needs.  In a new document create a Custom Workspace with the following: Character Palette, Paragraph Palette, and Swatches, and create a separate custom tool panel. Arrange the palettes in a logical position to make your workflow make sense. Save the file in the correct naming convention and present it to the class.


Each week you will need to respond to two questions posted. This is a requirement for the participation part of your grade.

Homework Due Next Class: 

All work should be submitted by 3:00 pm the Tuesday before class.

Each file should be saved according to the following naming convention. i.e., 1162_02_LastNameHW.ai (Illustrator).

  • Use your split grid design from our class Lab and recreate the design by changing the four-color theme. Save it in the correct naming convention and email it to your folder.
