Lincoln Center (Pre-Demolition) Research Questions

After brainstorming with the team and having posed several questions and topics of discussions, we have managed to boil it down to these three questions based on the common themes. We understand that these may not be final in their wording or structuring, but we are interested in these as themes for further research.

  • What were the relocation plans outlined in the Housing Act of 1949 and was it ever possible to relocate so many residents given the present conditions?
  • What were the conditions that constituted Lincoln Square and San Juan hill to be deemed a slum?
  • What was the cultural significance of the neighborhood before demolition and how does it compare to the subsequent urban development?

    1. Are we benefitting or becoming an obstacle of the BQE?
    2. How does BQE impact neighborhoods?
    3. Where is the money being invested?
    4. What is it like for people to live by the highways?
    5. Any new investments to make neighborhoods better?
    6. Are there any funding for the highways or opportunities presented today?
    7. Who has more power in this scenario?
