Topic

Intro to Project 2

TASTE 5
BRIEF: Fictional not-for-profit client: TASTE 5

  • Organizes live events (such as food markets and festivals) for restaurants, chefs, food trucks to sell and promote their food and products.
  • It produces topic- related publications (various formats)

Why this name? It allows us to work with an alpha-numeric combination
TASTE = food related
5 = the five boroughs of NYC

We will be working cross-media with a strong emphasize in typography, and will be working on various assignments at the same time. Attention to deadlines and what is due on each class meeting is critical.

We will design a wordmark first. We need to be aware that the logotype will be used for screen (web and motion) and print (paper).

Objectives

  • Understand the differences between a logo, a logotype, wordmark, symbol, etc.

Activities

During class:

Read The 7 Types of Logos

Pay close attention to number 2

To-Do After Class

  • Research free web fonts. Look at sites as Google Fonts or Adobe Fonts

Select 2 families typefaces. One should be a family with multiple variations (bold, light, condensed, italics, etc). The other family can be a display font. Bring a printout which includes the fonts that you selected.

  • Sketch at least 10 ideas for a word mark
    Work on your sketchbook
Note that this is not a lettering assignment. You can use a typeface, but create a unique, and distinctive mark for this company.
