A Stoa was a covered walkway. With no official purpose it was used for many. In a Stoa merchants sold goods, artist displayed artwork, and religious gatherings were held. They usually surrounded the marketplaces of large cities. The structure on the inside followed the ionic order while the inside was doric. Celebrating Democracy the Stoa Zeus was built in Zeus’ honor. The Athenians believed he saved them from Persian domination. A modern day equivalent to a Stoa, I believe would be a flea market or market place
