City Tech PLAN Week, November 1 — 5, 2021

During PLAN week, we offer information to help you plan your next steps—from choosing classes and learning how to register to finding out where to get support and make connections within the college. Don’t miss this opportunity to create a successful and personal PLAN. Also, by completing PLAN Week daily forms, you will be entered in a raffle pool for $50 MasterCard gift cards. If you participate all 5 PLAN Week questionnaires, you will be entered for a grand prize of $300.We recommend that you set aside 20-30 minutes a day this week, and watch one video and follow it by answering the corresponding response form.

Tuesday, November 2: PLAN your academic career by watching Understanding Your Degree Requirements and respond here.

Wednesday, November 3: PLAN your academic advising appointment by watching Creating a Semester-by-Semester Plan and respond here.

Thursday, November 4: PLAN to register by watching Introduction to Registration and respond here.

Friday, November 5: PLAN to get involved by watching How to Get Involved (video coming soon!)and respond here.

All of the videos and forms are available from now until Sunday, November 7 at https://www.citytech.cuny.edu/advisement/library.aspx. Any responses filled out by midnight on the seventh will be eligible for the raffle. Good luck, and start planning!

Online tutoring is available or select math courses Courses: MAT 1275CO, MAT 1275, MAT 1375, MAT 1475, MAT 1575 Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm

You will need a computer or device with a microphone and webcam. You may schedule as many as three appointments per week. You will need your EMPLID at your appointment.

  2. Scheduling instructions:

After you’ve clicked one of the links above, Setmore will walk you through this process of scheduling an appointment:

  1. Select your discipline.
  2. Select your tutor.
  3. Select the date and time for your tutoring session (you must schedule at least one hour in advance).
  4. You can sign in with an existing account or you can click “Skip login process.”
  5. Enter your name and email address (you do not need to enter your phone number). Enter your course in the comments section and click “Continue.”
  6. On the confirmation screen, make sure “Yes send me a reminder email” is selected before you click “Book My Appointment.”
  7. You will receive a confirmation email which contains a link to “Join your call.” Make sure you click this link and set yourself up ahead of time so that you are ready at your scheduled session.

Prepare for your tutoring session:

You can access your appointment either in your browser or using the Setmore app using the link in your confirmation email. To prepare for your 30-minute session with your tutor, make sure you are ready to ask specific questions and have any materials you may need close by.

  1. Do you need the tutor to explain a concept to you?
  2. Do you need help with a particular example?
  3. Do you need help with a particular assignment?

Items to have with you:

  1. EMPLID (on your student ID),
  2. notes,
  3. textbook (have it open on your computer if it’s an online textbook),
  4. assignments.

The ALC follows the college calendar. No tutoring is available on September 3, September 6, September 7, September 8, September 15, September 16, October 11, November 25, and November 26.   

The last day of tutoring is December 20, 2021.

Project opportunity: The 21-22 NASA Micro-g NExT Artemis Student Challenge

This is the 21-22 NASA Micro-g NExT Artemis Student Challenge that is a great opportunity for Mechanical Engineering undergraduate students.

NASA Micro-g NExT video:

Micro-g Neutral Buoyancy Experiment Design Teams (Micro-g NExT) challenges undergraduate students to design, build, and test a tool or device that addresses an authentic, current space exploration challenge. The overall experience includes hands-on engineering design, test operations, and public outreach. Test operations are conducted in the simulated microgravity environment of the NASA Johnson Space Center Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL). Teams will propose design and prototyping of a tool or simulant identified by NASA engineers as necessary in space exploration missions. Professional NBL divers will test the tools and students will direct the divers from the Test Conductor Room of the NBL facility. Micro-g NExT provides a unique opportunity to contribute to NASA’s missions. The 2022 Micro-g NExT challenges focus on the lunar extravehicular activities (EVA) operations aspect of the Artemis missions.
