Part 2 Summary-
In the Good Morning America news clip “Animal Crossing: Easing Anxiety How Simulation Games Are Helping People Keep Calm In Quarantine” American journalist Becky Worley reported that in a time of 24/7 quarantine a special game has been giving that light of hope that people have been desperately needing. Worley then proceeds to discuss about the hit game made by Nintendo called Animal Crossing, Worley proceeds to interview Washington Post writer Petula Devorak and her experience with the game. Devorak immediately opens with the statement “It’s a perfect world and such a nice escape” to then explain how this game has been a great way to escape the stressful time that we are currently living in. Just like Devorak the game has touched the hearts of parents and millennial’s alike all having the same thing to say which is ” a creative but relaxing escape from the outside world.”
Part 3A Reflection with my opinion and quotes
I’m really glad that this broadcast exist due to it explaining the benefits of videogames. As someone who plays videogames I’m glad people can experience what I experience when playing. As long as I have remembered video games have been ridiculed and have been viewed as a negative outlet. Maybe we need to be a lot more open minded on what video games can truly do. “Just like as if you were to spend time with a loved one or eat a food you really enjoy you get that same sort of dopamine rush” (Amy Morin 1:43) Throughout my quarantine “adventure” video games helped me out a lot but instead of Animal Crossing for me it was Minecraft. Getting on everyday to play with friends just to explore the vast lands and building whatever came to my mind really took a load off of me. Just being able to play and talk with friends while building our houses or even running around the world pulled me away from the current world that we live in. Granted it’s not real but the feelings and emotions definitely were and I highly recommend to pick up a game sometime just to escape the current world we live in and to relax.
Part 3B Rhetorical/ Genre Analysis
Becky Worley’s audience is all people. Her purpose is to inform and even educate people that something trivial like video games can save people in a time where people need saving. By showing clips of the game and even clips of people praising the game really hone’s in on what she’s trying to convey/ show. Broadcast journalism was a very smart choice for a topic like this because of how easy it is to access/ watch. Viewers watching this broadcast will definitely take playing video games into consideration from the many benefits it’s shown. In a time where we don’t have the ability to go out as much we need to think of some ways to be productive, maybe picking up a game and playing something like Animal Crossing can definitely help with that. “While games can replicate real world experiences, the feeling of accomplishing something, social reciprocity, giving and receiving which makes us feel connected to others and predictability which we all crave right now.”(1:48) In the 2006 SWS Media Trust survey, GMA News garnered 60% of public trust, second only to rival ABS-CBN with 68%. But a similar Pulse Asia survey shows that GMA News is the more credible in the country and to key demographics, this means that GMA is as reliable as you can get.
Part 4 Notable Quotables:
“Whenever I got to the next level or was able to get something done we think that’s great because I’m accomplishing something. I’m moving forward and it helps us feel better about ourselves.” (Amy Morin- Psychotherapist/ Author)
We talked about this in our meeting. Hope it helped.
You have missed some MIs in your summary. Don’t just bring in Devorak; there were certainly other sections with important ideas.

Reflection could be better. Goal: Deep and original thinking that bounces off the MIs of the video.
