“You do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around that’s what it’s all about”
It’s a pretty weird way to start things off but that’s what my godparents told me. It’s weird for a children song to be so quote on quote influential but to me it made a lot of sense at the time, and it still does now. Without second thought i laughed, and said “what are you saying” but the more you repeat and break it down the more sense it slowly made. The rough patch I was in at the time wasn’t really that good but it took a children’s verse to change everything. When you break it down you realize when you turn yourself around it means your making a change. It’s only when you make that change you slowly realize that’s what it’s all about.

When i think about it it still doesn’t make sense me granted I was still a sophomore in high school but now that I’m coming of age in college the pieces slowly come together. When i called my godmother for this assignment i asked why did you say it in the first place she said “you needed something to lift your spirits so I did by not only making you laugh but giving you life long quote to go by”. Everyday now I incorporate the hokey pokey into my life how can i turn myself around in situations where I cant win? And will there ever be a time when someone like me will need the hokey pokey in their life the answer is I don’t know.

Your writing piece leaves a lot of questions for the reader. Give more details. Paint a picture for the reader. Can you explain who said these words (grandparents?) and when and on what occasion? Explain how these words impacted you and what change did they spur in you?
Why are these words from a nursery rhme or child’s song so importahnt to you? You have not explained enough!
