The question I chose was question four Reread paragraph 7 and describe the process Douglass goes through to learn the word āabolition.āĀ Ā How does this process explain why the authorās mistress found his reading newspapers so threatening?
The process Frederick Douglass went through when he learned about the word abolition was that he knew him it was something bad and that they didn’t want slaves to know what it meant. He would hear this word very often and every time he heard it, it was like the slave owners were scared or upset to talk about it. He could’ve asked them what it meant because he feared for his life, he’s already an African American male and a slave. When he finally figured out what the word meant he knew why they were scared because it meant an end to slavery and Frederick Douglass knew he had a chance at freedom. The Authorās mistress found his reading newspapers so threatening because she must’ve knew about the abolition and what it costs for it to happen such as āIf a slave ran away and succeeded in getting clear, or if a slave killed his master, set fire to a barn, or did anything very wrong in the mind of a slaveholdeā. It’s so threatening because it is a threat that can take action. So not only did Authorās mistress feared for her life she also feared for his and she knew that if Frederick Douglass or any slave where to know this bit of information they would start an abolition.Ā
I like the way that you wrote your paragraphs. I also thought that quote was very important and you explained it well.
