Reading Response To Malcolm X- Mamadu Jalloh

“I suppose it was inevitable that as my word base broadened, I
could for the first time pick up a book and read and now begin to
understand what the book was saying. Anyone who had read a great deal
can imagine the new world that opened. Let me tell you something:
From then until I left that prison, in every free moment I had, if I was not
reading in the library, I was reading on my bunk. You couldn’t have
gotten me out of books with a wedge. Between Mr. Muhammad’s
teachings, my correspondence, my visitors–usually Ella and Reginald–
and my reading of books, months passed without my even thinking about
being imprisoned. In fact, up to then, I never had been so truly free in my
life.”

Malcolm X understood that it was inevitable that as he expands his vocabulary he is prone to pick up a book and not only read it but also comprehend the information that is being provided. He recognized that people who were literate became enlightened with different perspective and understanding of the world. For this reason, when Malcolm was in prison he used every opportunity to read whether its in the library or his room. through his journey to edification by reading books, Mr. Muhammad’s doctrines and his visitors, Malcolm X was excessively occupied that he wasn’t even focused on the fact that he was imprisoned. Ironically, he profess , until then he has “never been truly free” in his life.

  1. Mamadu: Got your px now — Thx!

Are you sure you are using the word “inexorable” correctly. Look it up!

Good quote to discuss but can you develop more on your explanation of MX’s words “truly free.” You write: … he wasn’t even focused on the fact that he was imprisoned. Ironically, he profess , until then he has “never been truly free” in his life. [Suggestion to think and expand upon the ways he is now “truly free”]

Where is your second chosen quote?????
