Mentor Text Analysis- Adan G

Mentor text- source #3 youtube video “NYC is building Anti-Homeless Streets” by Cash Jordan

Cash Jordan begins with an example of hostile architecture that looks harmless but hides the purpose it was made for. Jordan also uses his body to convey his message. This only works as the video format allows for his audience to understand visualize how hostile architecture affects people. The narrative is incorporated into the video by the different places Jordan visits and shows his research by using pictures of some of those places before it was affected by hostile architecture. As the examples go on, how much it affects us increases and it becomes more subtle. He also uses repetition by asking one question near the beginning of the video and then asking it again at the end. I believe using video format fits my topic best because the ability to show people how it affects the public is better than writing about it. A video can be more informative in a shorter amount of time as well as more effective. However, something I would not avoid would be putting pictures from other sources. Finding and editing pictures into the picture can be more challenging and the same effect can be done by recording more examples rather than just editing them in.
