I agree with Berliner’s point of curiosity being a fundamental aspect toward a child’s education. As a student, I do know what it feels to have my teachers focus only on the lesson itself. From what I’ve seen, many schools have made children believe that focusing on getting high grades is the most important point. I remember hearing my teachers consistently say : “Colleges mainly focus on grades, who you are is just a plus.” Hearing this made me feel discouraged. I felt as if my opinion didn’t matter as much. I felt like a robot being put to work. Never being allowed to have ideas, be curious, nor be different. I do now realize that curiosity allows students to make deeper connections. It allows people to get a better understanding of life and in fact makes students smarter.
Hi Dessire, your opinion of how sacrificing your curiosity for higher grades is a good aspect to agree. Without a doubt, while students progress in school, we realize that teacher’s just expect you to follow orders without allowing their students to properly understand the assignment. This can later lead to confusion and lack of trust between students and teachers. Your reflect expresses your feelings clearly.
