I am Lisa Liu. I graduated from New Utrecht High School. Surprisingly, I also have the same first name as professor Wu. I got this English name from my mom. Also, the reason why I have an English name instead of Chinese PinYin name is because I was born in South America, Suriname. It is a very small and poor country that was colonized by the Netherlands by 1975. Therefore, my first language was supposed to be Dutch. However, as I came to the U.S. 7 years ago, I started to learn English with zero basics. I became less familiar with Dutch over time but I still know a little, just a little. I also know Chinese, which contains Mandarin and Cantonese since my parents are from the province of Cantonese, Guangdong.
I wanted to major in Dental Hygiene but I heard that this major is very competitive, I only have little to no confidence to apply to this program successfully. I will try my best in completing the prerequisites for applying to Dental Hygiene. Although it will never guarantee me to get in since the requirements are high GPA and academically active.
Some hobbies I have are swimming, cooking, and sleeping. I only know how to do breaststroke so I want to learn how to do freestyle. I like to cook but I find that cleaning after cooking is very annoying so I don’t cook everyday. Sleeping is very enjoyable, it relaxes my mind and body and I don’t have to think too much as I often overwhelm myself. I was supposed to be able to know how to play piano when I was little but I gave up on learning it because the tuition fee was expensive. As I grew up and wanted to learn piano again, I found out that I lost my interest in learning and don’t want to spend time on playing piano anymore. Also, I find less interest in learning new things as I became very pessimistic recently. It can be caused by the pandemic and my development in a specified environment, or it can just be my personality. I also like to listen to music. I usually listen to melancholy music and light music with no lyrics. I guess this also formed a part of the reason why I am pessimistic.
Hi Lisa! I graduated from a school that is close to yours (FDR). I applied for Medical Imaging and just like Dental Hygiene, it is very tough to get in. I’m taking these prerequisites and hoping for the best. Also, never doubt yourself; we’ve got this! I believe in us. The sleeping hobby is so true. When I’m not in class or at work, you can find me at home sleeping. I love naps because I feel like they are a power-up. I love cooking and trying new things. The worst part about cooking is cleaning up after it, and I’m very lazy at times, so I hate that. I love to listen to music, but I prefer music with lyrics. Do you swim in your free time or do you go to swimming class?
Thank you for your encouragement! I usually go to swim when I have free time like lap swim. But sadly, now it’s the start of the semester so I can’t really find time to swim now…
I actually live in the area of New Utrecht high school.I had many friends go and graduate from there. I was even thinking of going there myself I even got accepted. But I ended up going to James Madison I also didn’t even realize you and professor have the same name!
I also like listening to melancholy and light music too, it helps me study and it also relaxes the mind.
I totally understand your perspective on cooking. Cooking is so fun and its beneficial too but the clean up isn’t something everyone looks forward too. I think its cool that you swim on your free time because I would love to learn more but I sadly don’t have free time but I hope you keep it up!
I completely understand your perspective on cooking. Cooking is so much fun until you have to clean up afterward. The benefits of cooking is learning a skill set and improving and get familiar with flavors and ingredients. I think it’s really cool that you swim on your free time.
I want to be a dentist too but later realized how much I like technology that why I am Mechanical Engineering major. I love to sleep too, it’s so peaceful. I can’t swim well but I do know what I am doing when I’m in the water. I just need to practice breathing underwater longer. Music is very therapeutic thing, I just listen to music and be calm and think freely. I listen to alot of A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Drake.
