Part 2
In the feature article “Schools Are Killing Curiosity’: Why We Need to Stop Telling Children to Shut up and Learn.” Wendy Berliner conveys how schools are stunting kids’ curiosity. Berliner refers to Researchers from the University of Michigan CS Mott Children’s Hospital and the Center for Human Growth and Development, that teachers find it easier to have the kids focus when teaching then ask questions or being distracted by their curiosity. But research done by Susan Engel author of The Hungry Mind and a leading international authority on curiosity in children. Discovers that as children advance in school levels, they are less curious and unlikely to ask their teachers questions. Finally, Paul Howard-Jones, professor of neuroscience and education at Bristol University, says that teachers should find time to answer questions and promote children’s curiosity. Many schools are stunting kids’ curiosity by not giving them enough time to ask questions or let them be curious kids.
