Part 2 Summary:
The article ââSchools Are Killing Curiosityâ: Why We Need to Stop Telling Children to Shut up and Learnâ, by Wendy Berliner tells us that the key for kids to do better academically is for teachers to stop limiting the kids curiosity. Wendy Berliner mentions how kids learn from teachers to not ask questions when they want too. According to the researchers from the University of Michigan CS Mott Childrenâs Hospital and the Center for Human Growth the younger children who are curious and ask question did better academically than the ones who donât. Teachers are focusing more on their performances and behavior, so they tend to discourage the kids from asking a lot of questions during class. As the kids got older, they became less curious and wouldnât ask questions for the whole class period because teachers tend to tell them to stop. Wendy Berliner concludes that curiosity shouldnât be seen as a negative thing, instead teachers should encourage and help increase it as it has proven to show that kids do better academically if they are more curious.
