Part 2 Summary

The article “ Schools are Killing Curiosity’: Why We Need To Stop Telling Children To Shut Up and Learn”, Wendy Berliner shows us how being more curious in school leads to better academic performance. Curiosity plays a huge role in our school system. Teachers are discouraging students’ curiosity which is leading to performance issues for those children. Berliner mentioned that promoting curiosity in children is an important unrecognized way to address the achievement gap. She also mentioned research where kindergarten kids were tested with their behavior and performance level and found that kids with the most curiosity seem to perform the best. Berliner concludes that schools need to start incorporating kids’ curiosity in lessons because of all the good links it has to better academic performance.
