Part A
From what Lamott had to say the first draft is more about the process then the product. She emphasizes just to start writing whatever comes to mind. As she stated in the excerpt “ The first draft is the child’s draft, where you let it all pour out and then let it romp all over the place, knowing that no one is going to see it and that you can shape it later. You just let this childlike part of you channel whatever voices and visions come through and onto the page.” She shows here that it is not so much about the product but more of a step in a process. It doesn’t matter how good your writing is on the first draft as long as you have something to fuel off of. Something that you can build and turn into a well written piece.
Part B
“Just get it all down on paper because there may be something great in those six crazy pages that you would never have gotten to by more rational, grown-up means. There may be something in the very last line of the very last paragraph on page six that you just love, that is so beautiful or wild that you now know what you’re supposed to be writing about, more or less, or in what direction you might go.” This shows me that you never know about something unless you try it. You would have never gotten that last line on page 6 that is so beautiful or wild without trying to write the other 5 pages. This quote shows me to always give something a try because you never know how good of an outcome you are missing out on.
