Writing a first draft is more about the process. No one starts off with a perfect story the first time they write it , it takes multiple tries and drafts and mistakes to get to the final draft that is perfect. Without going through the process of having multiple drafts , going over what you wrote , fixing it up and taking out mistakes there is no chance of improving it. Going through the process of fixing up your story and improving it from what you first wrote ends with your best product.
“There may be something in the very last line of the very last paragraph on page six that you just love, that is so beautiful or wild that you now know what you’re supposed to be writing about, more or less, or in what direction you might go — but there was no way to get to this without first getting through the first five and a half pages”.
This quote goes with the idea of how creating a story and writing is more of a process then just about the end product. I believe this quote means that bad first drafts lead to the end product you’re satisfied with and you’d never get there without going through the journey of discovery that comes with writing first drafts. Putting all your thoughts onto paper first and going back to edit it and make changes so that it can become something you love something you are happy with.
I like that quote too. Being able to put your thoughts onto paper and creating a world through your writing is special. Without the multiple drafts and revision the concept may get lost. You may not know what you’re truly writing about until you have written something. Pages on pages may become shorter as you truly find what you love about the story. With this you’re able to get your point across and love what you wrote.
