Part A
From what Lamott has to say about the first draft is that itâs more of the process. The first draft doesnât have to be perfect, and can always re-edit later on. The first step of the writing process is you having your thoughts written down on a paper, just anything that youâre thinking of and thatâs already the first draft. It can be all over the place but that is okay, the first piece is never great because that is the process of writing. There will be mistakes and there will be improvements that need to be made later on which is the second draft. We would be revising it and making edits, this is where we will be improving our writing. The third draft would be checking each and every little detail about the writing making sure itâs more sophisticated and better than the prior drafts. This whole thing is considered a process, there are steps to writing a good essay.
Part B
âYou need to start somewhere. Start by getting something – anything – down on paper. A friend of mine says that the first draft is the down draft – you just get it down. The second draft is the up draft – you fix it up.â I feel like this quote is significant because this is basically showing us the process of writing. The first writing is never perfect. As long as we have an idea down or something down on our paper, we can start from there and then improve the writing in the next step which is the second draft. You can revise it and make edits.
I agree with your quote because it does start with writing everything down first. For the second draft, you must fix up what you wrote in the first draft and make it sound better. The quote is showing what you do in each step of writing; it is kind of like a guideline.
