Hey my name is Dessire Perez and I am 17 years old. I’m a part of the first generation in my family to be born in the U.S ; While both of my parents come from the Dominican Republic. Every year I try to visit my dad’s side of the family as they aren’t able to visit me. Although I wasn’t born in DR, I still consider it to be home. Trust me , if I could stay there for the rest of my life… I would. I’ve ridden 4-Wheelers, ATVs, been to so many rivers and beaches, have visited a couple of religious sites and so much more. I love my Dominican culture down from the food ( such as la bandera, yaroa, mangu and etc ) , the music ( especially dembow and bachata ), and just the country itself. Now let me tell you about who I am behind closed doors.
I love hanging out with my cousins no matter how old or young they may be. I consider them to be my best friends. Family has always been a major part of who I am and without them I don’t think that I would be where i’m at today. I have a huge heart for kids and even for animals too. Sometimes I may appear to be very quiet or shy but once you get to know me , I don’t shut up. I’ve grown up with my cousins and have two that are the same age as me. I am really close to them and they’re like my siblings. I have only one younger brother and although he can be a pain, I still push him to become better than me one day. I’m the type of person who wants the best for everyone else even if i’m not feeling alright. Seeing other people happy makes me happy.
Hello Dessire, from what I read I can tell that you are a family oriented person and adventurous. I am also connected with my family. During my infancy, I grew up with my cousins in the same apartment, which I believe makes us more siblings than cousins. Although I am not from the Dominican Republic, I have Dominican relatives. I enjoy the rich culture that the DR has to offer. Likewise, I am well connected to my parents’ home country. I feel it is important to understand and connect to your roots.
I did ATV ridding too, I hope you had the same experience I had. I too can be shy sometimes but I don’t know where it came from because I was social in elementary school. Maybe from having to meet new people and middle school and noticing the change. Me and my cousins are not close because they don’t live in New York nor America. When my girlfriend is happy that is the best thing in the world because I know I’m doing right. So I agree with you about seeing other people happy makes me happy.
Hi Dessire, Growing up I was always hanging out with my cousins as well even though most of them are older than me. I found that hanging around them could help me learn new things while strengthening our bond. I’m also quiet and shy around others whom I don’t know but talkative around those whom I consider as my friends. As a supportive person as well, I encourage my friends and younger siblings to always do good and make it known that I’m always there for them if they ever need help.
Family also means a lot to me as well an i have a niece and 2 cousins who are around the same age as me who i am very close with. I’m a very shy and quiet person until people get to know me and i start to open up more and once they know who i am as a person they wish they could rid of me but they will never. I agree with you bout seeing other people happy making you happy I’m always the person trying to cheer up my friends and family, checking up on them to make sure everything is okay even when i may not be okay myself but knowing they are helps a lot.
