A huge part of my educational Journey are my sisters, parents, and the rest of my extended family all play a significant role in motivating me to pursue my education. Ever since I can remember education has always been the main factor in my life. My conditions have always been favorable to learning and I accordingly started picking up certain skills early on in my life. My parents were not regular parents growing up, they are Dominican immigrants. The family saying “education transforms people’s lives for the better. It improves a person’s knowledge, talent, and intelligence and gives one the tools he needs to lead a successful life.” But I was the opposite of what my family wanted, I did not like school and lacked motivation to do it, I was suck between two worlds.
Being in a Dominican household I was expected to do well in school, especially being from a family with six college graduates. But I did the opposite of what was expected from me, the overwhelming feeling of having to become something great made me sick. It felt like there were many voices in my head telling me I need to be. I started to become lazy and began to procrastinate anything that had to do with school. I became a family rebel, instead of doing homework, I would go out and play sports with my friends.
