So is copyright a good thing or a bad thing? In my opinion, I agree the copyright should last long for some materials like Star Wars. Because if they didn’t have years of protection then someone else will come along, make another series or movies like it and they’ll have the protection instead of the original. Not to mention the original won’t be profiting anymore. However, we can use copyright materials at certain points. For example, a teacher can use copyrighted materials for the lesson planner. Eventually the teacher will have to cite to the class of the source where the teacher got it. Another example is that students can also use copyrighted materials due to academic reasons. Copyright is sort of a good thing because it prevents ideas from being stolen for some time.

  1. Yea that’s true, and what about for music? Does the concept still say the same, even if one were to use copyrighted materials not for academic reasons, but to simply enlighten people with their collaborative work of wisdom? For example, there is a guy who calls himself “DJ Earworm,” and he basically takes verses of songs under the category of Top 40 songs of that particular year, and creates a song or two. I personally think it’s a good thing, when its work (in this case) appeals to the masses. However, it could also be a bad thing because he’s taking other people’s words and making it his song. But, still sounds brilliant in the end.

I also agree that copyright laws should last longer, not just for popular pieces such as Star Wars, but even some of the unpopular pieces that are well known within specific groups. And protection or not, if it’s not other people recreating a popular piece, the original creator will due to the fact that technology is vastly progressing. For example, old Disney movies being “digitally remastered” and distributed to movie theatres for a limited time period. As for using copyrighted material for academic reasons, what happens if a student uses material on a project and is paid by the government or, third-party, who had great interest because of the quality of the project? Would that be considered as breaking the terms of fair use?

This is true people should use copyrights entirety. Wheresoever will you find ideas and topics that deal with teaching, learning, and expression. A friend like the copyrights law is doing you some good. You want to help yourself, but you can’t you need a shoulder to lean on like books, videos, and mp4’s and teachers, tutors, and coaches that help you to boldly present your ideas. And the use of copyrighted material in learning develops contrast, inclusion, improvisation on what your knowledge is based, and finally helping a teacher/student to meet their goals ready and rationally.
