In this series I tried to take pictures of small buildings/structures that are usually are not taking in a certain sense. Some may be used as a background for a person thats the main focus or neglected or simply ignored. When I finished taking these pictures I first had trouble finding something that they had in common, but as I stared at them more and more it made me realize that most people would just walk by these things and go where ever.

In this series of photographs, I try to show the geometric forms in New York City through their buildings. It’s interesting how very simple shapes such as rectangles, circles, and triangles can form very complex, huge, beautiful, and interesting buildings. I tried to find the abstraction, the geometric pattern and the juxtaposition of the buildings.
This Photo Series is heavily influenced by the TV Show, Euphoria and its use of color to convey emotion. The color palette of the show utilizes a lot of Magenta and Cyan. To recreate that, I used the gels, Scarlet and Argent Blue, with two light sources. I positioned the light sources with the gels at varying distances from the subject and at varying angles.

In my series, the outlying concept is age and and rebuilding community. With these photographs, the sense of old and new community are seen and guided toward that concept through use of color and light. I set up objects around old environments in appropriate lighting to demonstrate age. I went around a new community taking photos of signs and art. I took some inspiration from the classic David Lynch series “Twin Peaks”; it’s use of color and frame is really interesting. I took photos each week whenever I went out to the community. There are some photos that I took in North Carolina where I am now, and there are a lot of broken down houses ready to be built back up, bringing up the theme of age and rebuilding community. Overall it was fun to do this assignment, I enjoyed the creative vision that came to me while doing it.
In this series of photographs, I try to show the geometric forms in New York City through their buildings. It’s interesting how very simple shapes such as rectangles, circles, and triangles can form very complex, huge, beautiful, and interesting buildings. Architecture has always caught my attention, its forms, evolution, different styles, from the most rustic and old to the modern, from the most complex to the minimalist, I find it very interesting. And in the city, we can find everything about that. I’m not an architect, in fact, my career is communication design, but for me, New York has a very striking and unique mix of different architectural styles. You can cross a corner full of columns in the Greco-Roman style and then come across a colossal 47-meter modern building. So, I decided to show that in my photography series.
I went to lower Manhattan to take photos because in Brooklyn are only residential houses and are not the same as the huge buildings as the financial district. Unfortunately, the day that I decided to go wasn’t sunny, so I decided to find the abstraction and the juxtaposition of the buildings. This was very funny because you need to think in another way to view the buildings and take photos from a point of view that’s makes it interesting to the viewer.

As I’ve begun shooting, I’m thinking about the screen’s series of abandoned theaters. I am trying to imitate the long exposure style I was inspired by Hiroshi Sugimoto so, the Japanese photographer’s work spanning decades and, rather than looking for capturing the illusion of the final moment. I thought of the drawing, design, or other non-photographic visual references for this project, because it uses objects that are easy to find near the classroom. The first week of filming went well, and the door was straightened a lot. Even though I was frustrated when I started shooting, I managed to do it. Parts of series have not proved more difficult than expected. I have not have a great success in my first week of shooting. I’m excited about a lot of them I captured some really good ones. I don’t know if I can pinpoint them, but those who have every door and window well, to me. I think they can.
The concept behind my series is to show that there always 2 sides to a person weather it’s a tomboyish type of vibe or a girly type of vibe there’s always 2 sides to a person. Well at first I had no idea what I was going to do but once I got to shooting it became better and it’s great way to see how far along i’ve come. The more you shoot the more it will get easier and you will know what to do.
What inspired you to pursue this idea? What particular photos are you thinking about (from class or from anywhere else in your life) as you’ve begun shooting? Do you have any painting, design, or other non-photographic visual references in mind for the project? Are there any particular styles that you are attempting to emulate?
One of the people in class gave me the second idea of shooting on the beach to capture another type of vibe and since I already did a tomboyish look I decided okay now I have to show a girly side of her because there’s more to her than her tomboyish side because when she dresses up she dresses up nice you know so I wanted to capture the encessence of that. To be honest I don’t know and no I don’t have visual refrences in mind for the project. I don’t know I guess i’m trying to show that here’s this skater girl who is tomboyish but also has a girly/punk type of vibe.
How did the first week of shooting go? Did you encounter any difficulties or setbacks as you began to shoot? Have any parts of your series proved more difficult than anticipated?
The first week of shooting was alright it was a little over whelming because I was thinking who can I choose for this project and where I was going to shoot it it was a lot but at least we got it now. I did have minor setbacks because I had to do other things as well so I was busy most of the time but I made time to get it done which is the important part. No any parts did not prove difficulties than I anticipated.
Which images is your group most excited about? Are there particular qualities of those images that you can pinpoint or define? Can anyone in the group clearly state why they’re reacting to these particular images?
I’m actually excited about a lot of them I captured some really good ones. I don’t know if I can pinpoint them but the ones with the tree work every well to me. I think they can but i’m not every sure.
Here is report of my progress
