Today in class we were doing headshots with light and dark backgrounds. The professor showed us how to mask the photo and make it seem like another piece of art was a part of subject.

This class we were working on motion shots and ambient light. The motion shots were my favorite and especially the one with the Casey running. The professor showed us how to use the layer mask to accomplish the art work.

In this photo, I had to have the shutter speed slower than normal in order to get a certain amount of light with the flash to get what we were going for. The shutter speed was 1/50 , the aperture was at F5 and the ISO was at 100.

For this shot we had to raise the ISO to 800 because it got darker outside and we had to compensate for the flash that we were using.

In this photo I kept the shutter speed at 1/125, which is what I usually shoot with. Since it was still daylight and a little cloudy, I had the aperture at F5 and the ISO at 800. I like this picture because of the vibrant background with the subject in all black. Giving it a figure/ground aspect to it.

For the late photos, I had my shutter speed slower at 1/80 because I was experimenting with different shutter speed. The aperture was at F6.3 and the ISO at 1600 because it was dark.

For the PSA project, I chose to do it on depression awareness. I chose to use a black background to give it a darker feel. I also used one light on the subject to achieve that sense of darkness. I wanted to give the sense that he was alone and hopeless, that’s why there is only but so much light on him and a lot of shadows; giving it a void sensation. To achieve this shot, I used a shutter speed of 1/100, the aperture was F10, and the ISO was 100. All of these were used to compensate for the dark area and strobe light.

Today in class, we were making magazine covers and this project was probably my favorite one because I got to thrown in some graphic design elements as well; also I got a chance to make a mock XXL magazine cover.

Today in class, we were working on product shots using different lighting. We had to get shots with a white background and black background. Since we were using the strobe lights as we photographed, we had to keep the ISO at 100. For the white background, I had to have the aperture at F16. Then for the black background, I had to increase the aperture to F22 so the product can be seen clearly.

We were trying to recreate a Kamehameha blast with the light painting that we learned.

This one is more accurate to a Kamehameha energy ball.

The Z is for Zen, you probably thought of Zorro.
