#8: Ray Harryhausen’s Dynamation

Ray Harryhausen is an American-British animator. Making his works, he developed a stop-motion style called Dynamation. He first used this technique in “The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms.” It purposely looks clunky and he continued to create more films this way. I will admit, I wasn’t so caught up on stop-motion history. I was watching the newest Pixar Cars project, Cars On The Road. In the first episode, the characters visited a Dinosaur Museum and one of the characters fell asleep and dreamt that he was living in the times of the Dinos. The animation had shifted and I knew that it was stop-motion, but it had a slightly different feel to it. After doing some research, the animators were definitely inspired by Harryhausen’s stop-motion style.
