“Almost like working at Buzzfeed”

Those were the words my fellow intern used to describe the environment and culture of Statista in New York. Most of the employees, even my team director, are young, like if they just came out of college. So it’s a really relaxing environment with a couple mini golf sets lying around, soccer balls to play with when we’re bored, TVs with video game consoles connected to play during lunch and so. When I first visited Statista for my interview, I dress business-like assuming that’s what the other employees wear too. However, when I got there, everyone was wearing jeans, t-shirts and other casual clothes. It was probably the first and last day wearing my business clothes.

The culture is very relaxing and pretty fast-paced. They would play some music, but at low volume. Since most of the employees are salepeople, they are always on their phone talking to current and potential Statista clients. I would sometimes eavesdrop on their phone conversations and realized how difficult it is to be a salesperson. To boost moral, whenever a salesperson makes a sale, they would ring a bell and everyone would clap. I found it pretty cool since they have goals to meet and knowing you’re closer to that goal is exciting.

Since almost everyone is doing their thing, I am usually left alone to work on my projects
mainly for the department I am in. Whenever I am stuck on something I would sit nearby a window and think or ask other graphic design interns for help. I’m glad I get to work in a peaceful yet fast-paced environment.
