The skills that I have learned while at the program are:
- Blood pressure screening – as well as discussion of high blood pressure facts and fictions to those who are not aware of their HBP and need to take further action
- Head and Neck Cancer screening examination
- Dental charting using Dentimax
- Periodontal screening
- Oral Prophylaxis (very thorough with use of Cavitron and hand instruments)
- Deep scaling and root planing on heavy patients
- Fluoride Treatment (varnish and tray application)
- Tooth Whitening
- Dietary Counseling for Prevention of Dental Decay and Screening for Caries for children and adult
- Exposing, mounting and interpreting Radiographs such as Full mouth series, Bite wings (tabs and XCP) and Panorex
- Pit and Fissured sealants with rubber dam placement and cotton roll isolation (Adults and Children)
- Air polishing for supra and sub gingival cases to remove biofilm and stains
- Engine polishing with use of different levels of coarseness depending on the patient’s needs
- Assessing patient’s risk of caries using the CAMBRA form and taking further action based on this form and clinical findings.
- Application of topical agents and Oraqix
- Periodontal dressing placement and removal
- Taking and pouring alginate impressions
- Administering Local Anesthesia (Infiltration) and Nitrous Oxide on those who require more comfort during their dental visit
- Placement and Evaluation of Arestin sites
- Dispensing of referrals when necessary
- Discussion of smoking cessation with patients
- Excellent patient interaction and patient management as well as communication skills
- Organized appointment scheduling for patients – (New, Revisit, Recare)
