The introduction explained what exactly is the meaning of information. The introduction wants the reader to understand not only the definition of information but to interpret what information means to you. Since information is interpreted differently by many people, the book wants us to map the main sense about information. Chapter 1 it also talks about the lifecycle of information. Chapter 1 gave an example on the G7 group and how collecting their data is the most in history so hence it will have a longer life cycle. Chapter 1 also talks about the zettabyte era and how computers change how we record data. Before computers they used print, film, magnetic and optical storage media that were being used before computers. That era in history changed with the innovations of computers because of the benefits it provided. Chapter 1 also explain what is the infosphere and how it can affect in a negative way. The past revolutions didn’t have such a big of a impact unlike this revolution with technology. The negative affects are that if we don’t construct an environment that is good for the new and future generations, society will fail. Many people aren’t taking it seriously so that’s why it is going in a negative state that can impact us.
I am in the Computer System department so my definition of information and data might be different because of me being in a different department. Collecting data and information is very important, especially how we put it into society. It is also important what we do with the information that we collected and make sure there isn’t any misinformation or mislead information being used.
