A college student should apply for the prep cook job after graduation of the back of the house. I would suggest this job if you would like a career in the culinary industry and it is a great start to get there. I would advice the college student to have a basic waiter or dishwasher job during college for them to gain experience of the restaurant industry in the front of the house or back of the house. They would be able to tell what a customer likes or dislikes of the preparation of their food or gain experience of the hectic, fast paced line in the kitchen. A college student should also take part in culinary clubs, public speaking clubs and other skill groups to achieve professionalism. A college student should also be familiar on how to do inventory control, have a great skill in a fast paced setting and be a sociable individual that cares about people’s comfortability.
