Week 2

Hello! My name is Guadalupe, I’m 18 years old and I am a first-year student at City Tech majoring in hospitality management. I wouldn’t say that I’m one of the best students there could ever be. I have always struggled experiencing new chapters of my life especially when I’m in an environment where I don’t know anyone, and everything is basically new to me. But my mindset has always been that I have to be able to overcome these obstacles as they are being presented in order to be successful. One thing that I sometimes find myself stressed about is having good grades especially when it comes to getting participation points because I would consider myself as a very timid person. In most cases I would rather take my time to evaluate and analyze my classmates’ opinions. In which I guess you can say that I’m a better listener. In addition, I have always pushed myself to communicate with others without feeling super overwhelmed or feeling as if my answers may be wrong. I’m always willing to try new techniques to help me improve either as a student or a person in general to help be more successful with my goals. The reason why I chose this career is because I believe that there are many different alternative paths that can be explored throughout this journey. As of right now I want to become a general hotel manager, but I also wouldn’t mind becoming a flight attendant because it would be interesting to learn and explore what each country has to offer and evaluate its many different aspects. I’m willing to put in all my effort to be successful in this journey. I know it would take some time and that it would be difficult, but I know that it would be all worth it.

Week 14

Wow, my first semester has almost come to an end, and it definitely went by faster than I expected. I have most definitely learned a lot these past 14 weeks although some weeks were a bit overwhelming. In regard to communicating with my peers I have interacted with them a bit more in some classes than others. I found that breakout rooms were a great way to communicate and support each other when everyone was confused or needed help regarding a specific topic. I figured out that having a group chat for classes has made me more comfortable when communicating with my peers and getting to know them. In terms of my classes I now have a deeper meaning of what the hospitality industry is really like, and all the components involved. I’ve learned the importance of properly citing sources, finding reliable sources, writing a good final paper, the many benefits of reading articles and chapter reading every week and so much more. The New York Times has impacted my knowledge significantly in addition to learning about places that aren’t well known by tourists, a culture’s influence, the importance of travel and its effects on the industry and more. Although I still need to improve on my time management skills and a bit more on communication. In regard to the path, I want to take in specifically I’m not fully sure yet, but I know there would be something that would interest me in some time. I’m more than excited to see what my second semester has to offer since I would be on campus, and I’m encouraged to continue with my experience in the hospitality industry.

I think small group conversation is good too, I am happy you were able to accomplish that during breakout sessions. What you learned and continue to develop will help you as you continue your college adventure.
