Weâve finished one week of the semester so farâcongratulate yourself for that accomplishment! Here we go with Week 2!
Class Info
- Dates: Wednesday, 9/1-Tuesday, 9/14 (no class meeting on Tuesday, 9/7)
- Meeting Info: To review:
- Our course is a hybrid, meaning that it is a blend of synchronous and asynchronous work.
- For the synchronous sessions, we will meet on Tuesdays 12:00-1:40pm via Zoom and share notes in a shared document.
- For the other class meeting time, you will do your work throughout the week asynchronously, on your own time.
- Our weeks will begin on Wednesdays and run through our class meetings on Tuesdays.
- Work will be due during the week as noted in the weekly agenda, usually with Thursday and Monday mornings as a deadline to join a discussion so we all have time to respond to each other.
- Optional student support meeting hours are opportunities to meet synchronously with me individually or in a small group via our class Zoom link.

To-Do This Week
If youâve never taken a fully online class before, or a hybrid synchronous/asynchronous course, it may take a while to get used to the ways the class functions. The work for the week includes what you would do in the classroom if we met a second day per week, as well as what you would do to prepare for class and what you would do outside of class to work toward a course project.
This week, much of our work will help us learn more about each other and ourselves in this collaborative environment focused on developing as writers. The agenda might look like a lot, and it likely is a lot, and we can talk about that, too. To help us keep on track please share your work assigned for Week 1 as soon as possible…let’s say no later than Monday morning, 9/6–but that’s Labor Day, so I’m not actually asking you to to work that day. Finishing it before then would be ideal! Next, please share your work for the Week 2 assignments by Monday morning, 9/13 so we all have time to read everyone’s work before class on Tuesday, 9/14.
Reading
- Mike Bunn, âHow to read like a Writerâ
- JosĂ© Olivarez, âMaybe I Could Save Myself By Writingâ
- Anne Lamott, âShitty First Draftsâ
Writing
Discussions: Weâll write about the different readings we have for this week. Rather than discussing them all in one huge discussion thread, weâll break it apart. Follow instructions for discussions about how we read, how we write, and about telling an education narrative.
