Learning is a source of hope for a better future. It requires hard work and sacrifice which can be even more difficult in challenging times. Your time in college is also your opportunity to connect with others, lift your spirit, enrich your life, and develop the skills and knowledge to make a difference in your community.

Question #3
How will I create positive academic habits for myself?
I will create positive academic habits for myself by creating a checklist of do’s and do nots. As in things I will be capable of doing or things I should be doing and things that I absolutely should not do/avoid doing.
Hi Leila I really like the idea of a check list that will be really helpful when it’s comes to making sure you get everything you need done. It will insure you don’t miss anything that as to be done and you will get everything done on time. I may use this myself.
Hello Leila. I agree since i make a checklist and it is an approach that has been really helpful. I would highly suggest.
To answer question #2
When I have been faced with a difficult situation, what strategies did I use to find a solution?
Some ways I found a solution was rationally thinking and which way is the best to fix or get myself out of this situation in the smartest way I can while also trying to just defuse the situation helps with my mindset and I often like to go with peaceful approaches.
Hey Nyla, I totally agree with what you said! There’s some situations I can take a peaceful approach with; however, there’s other situations where I can definitely react to quickly without thinking. With that being said that can be definitely something that I can work on and it’s good to see that you have overcome some situations by thinking rationally and taking more peaceful approaches!
Hi Nyla, This is a great technique. Sometimes you can also talk to someone that you trust or who has been in the same situation and get some advice.
Question #3
How will I create positive academic habits for myself?
I will create positive academic habits for myself by using my calendar to mark important dates like when papers are due and when there will be tests. Also set reminders for myself to prepare for them by setting aside 2-3 hours a day for homework and studying.
Totally agree with you Kayla. using resources either a manual/digital calender to constantly remind you about your main prioritys will make your life easier. & have less stress.
Hey kayla, this is an excellent habit you’re developing for yourself. Good job!!!
Hey Kayla, I agree with you I think really keeping in mind and track of how much time you have to get an assignment done will help you not get overwhelmed. I also agree with having time just looking over notes so you brain really captures everything.
Question #3 How will I create positive academic habits for myself?
First I must set realistic goals & regularly check on myself whether or not I’m experiencing gradual changes in my academics. Also failing makes you become a better student overall. Going to campus with a positive mindset. Balancing my study routine & selfcare must be stable in order for me to succesfully thrive.
Hey ABianK, I totally agree. Sometimes it gets so stressful that we forget to take care of ourselves so setting aside time for self-care can be beneficial.
How will I create positive academic habits for myself?
I will create positive academic habits by trying to surround myself with people who can uplift and create healthy academic habits. Having friends that encourage and study with each other will put me in the right mind space to succeed.
I agree with you Dris having healthy connections will put you in a good path to succeed and strive to be successful!!
Hello, Dris. Having a friend who encourages you and wants you to succeed academically is undoubtedly beneficial since there will be moments when you feel like giving up.
I love to see everyone posting such great things and also responding to each other – we’re already building a positive community of first year students at City Tech!

I will create positive academic habits for myself by implementing a study plan and adjusting it if necessary, depending on grades and test. Surrounding myself with people that have a strive to succeed with academic work would keep me encouraged with my academics. Along with surrounding myself with positive energy. I will also understand my limits, so I don’t burnout.
I agree with you Ariana because having a study plan makes you organized and makes you be on top of your assignments. I also agree with you on surrounding with the correct people because you wouldn’t want your grades to be affected just because you weren’t with the correct people.
Hello, Ariana. I agree with what you’ve just said. Having a study plan is crucial.
How will I create positive academic habits for myself?
I will create positive academic habits by finding a good place to study where I won’t get distracted. I will also ask for help when I don’t understand a assignment. I could also be organized to help me stay on top of my assignments. Another positive academic habit for myself would be to take breaks when studying for a long time I could do a stretch as well as get a snack and have water. And another thing I could do would be to set goals for myself.
I agree with Jen on what she would do to creat a positive academic habit because I would do the same I’m a person that gets distracted easily.
Hey Jen, I’d recommend studying at the library. Last semester, I went there to study when I had some free time.
I will create a positive academic habit by focusing in school a lot and take good notes.I will find a place where I feel comfortable to do my work.I would say my work space have to be a chill space and somewhere that I’m alone.Asking for help if needed not stressing my life out and overthink about the work.when I comes to writing assignments I would ask a teacher for help and have them give me feed back on what I have written so far.
Hey, Camila. Some professors do not provide study guides; therefore, taking good notes in class is quite beneficial.
Hey Camila, I hope you are able to create those habits for yourself since sometimes its so difficult to stick to them at the start. I agree with the having a nice work space because its so important to be comfortable to get the motivation to study and be productive. Overthinking always happens but remembering to take mental breaks and practicing some meditation can be helpful with clearing your mind.
I will create positive academic habits by having strict self discipline and have it in my mind that even though it might be a lot it will all be worth it in the end. I also want to force myself to really go for everything I can without of course overwhelming myself and my schedule. I will dedicate all of my time to school but also when I feel that I have time to go out I will that way I will also feel better having a valences social life and school life. And of course I also want to set days where I work all day only in school work maybe go to a coffee shop and get work done there or a quiet space in my house. I will also always ask questions so I never get confused and will understand the assignment to the fullest which will help me not only in homework but also exams.
These are great habits you’re creating for yourself Ariana. Try your very best to stick to them. Good luck!!!
Question #2 When I have been faced with a difficult situation, what strategies did I use to find a solution?
When I face a difficult situation I have some strategies to help myself stay calm but overcome it. Depending on what the situation is if I am in need of emotional support then I go to the people I trust and can help me think of a solution or for comfort. But if I have to comfort myself I try to think of solutions and try to make a plan that is reasonable. Breathing techniques and types of ways to clear my mind are important.
Hello Melissa, also taking a 15 minutes walk in a nearby park can also helps clearing your mind. I know this because I sometimes do that.
I would create positive academic habits for myself by allowing myself to be more open and ask questions in the classroom setting. As well as implementing a better morning routine to get the day started more positively. Furthermore implementing a more growth mind set when being faced and challenged with tasks that may seem to be “difficult” or “challenging.” Also by submitting my work in more of a timely manner rather than getting it done later on in the day.
