DISCOVER:

For our final project, we were instructed to create a personal flag. That is a representation of ourselves. In order to begin this process, we were instructed to do my map. For my mind, I found myself going down the path of my favorite color, which is green. The green correlated to different concepts surrounding nature. I think the green is a very, harmonious color. It represents prosperity, agriculture, nourishment, and fertility. Every time I think of the color green, I think that it is a color that transpires, health, virtue, and I think it’s because of the symbolism around it. As it was thinking about plants and nature, I thought about the Egyptian goddess of fertility, Isis. I also started thinking about rebirth and fertility, and the promotion of health and unity as a society. A flag is supposed to be a depiction of a certain community, and I wanted my flag to represent unity, prosperity, health, and Abundance.

DEFINE & DEVELOP:

As I began to sketch, I was basically just sketching digitally. I was looking at a lot of examples of logo, hieroglyph and cultural references. I like to use geometric shapes, and I was really drawn to the figure and silhouette of the lotus flower.

DELIVER:

In the end, I really resonated with the dove. Even though I’m not really religious, I always have loved the idea of the olive branch in the mouth of the dove signifying life and existence was capable of thriving. I felt like my flag represents that I’ll always embrace the duality of nature. It has the ability to create life, sustain it, provide sustenance and we can show our collective love for nature and the world by showing it to each other.
