This article written by Eric Asmov is lovely. SA wine is often looked down upon. However one of their best wines is in fact the Chenin Blanc. When you thinkg South African wine you think of a pinotage and a chenin blanc. The two staple South African wines. South Africa has more chenin blanc planted then the loire valley alone. Asmov also goes onto talk about Chenins from South Africa a few years ago were used only for blending now they are some very serious wines. He then goes onto say that the only other grape that has aa much verstitality as a chenin is a riesling. Another interesting fact. Ill have to look at this tomorrow when I get into work.
This was a very nice article to read!
A lot has changed in South African wines since 2007. A greater array of varietals are being produced and exported. What wines do you have on your menu?
