Please read and annotate Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave.” The link to the text is in WEEK 3 ON THE SCHEDULE** Please write down the 5 W’s of the text to bring to class for discussion—the who, what, where, when, why, and how. Please pay attention to how the text begins and ends. The text is taken from a larger work/book called The Republic. Please also spend at least 5 to 10 minutes looking up Plato and/or the text—please post the information that you find online about Plato on the DISCUSSIONS section (under student work tab). We will discuss how what we learn about Plato helps us in our comprehension.

Please be sure to watch the short videos that are visual interpretations of the text—they are also IN WEEK 3 ON THE SCHEDULE**

After you have read and annotated once, please read the text again. Look for moments in which Plato emphasizes physical and concrete details of the prisoners’ experience; for example, pay attention to anything they see, hear, and physically feel (along with what causes it). Please find at least three of these details, and think about what they might symbolize (please look up the word to symbolize if you are not sure). For each detail, write a few sentences explaining the point/s Plato makes through his imagery (we defined this word in class, but please look up if you are not sure).

Please also bring any questions you have of course to class!:)
