  • Format will be 11×17 paper with border and title block

Part 2: Written description of 2 buildings from photos

NOTE: The best way to prepare for the exam is to complete your Small Building Drawings – Elevations, Section + Plan – Assignment 5+6.

  • Group 2: The Row’s Evolving Role
    • List 2-3 typical features of the row house
    • what are the typical widths of this type of building?
    • Write one question you have from this section of the article.
  • Group 3: Brownstoning
    • Where does the term Brownstone come from?
    • How did this term come to be used to describe certain row houses?
    • Write one question you have from the article.
  • Group 4: Beyond the Brownstone
    • What does Paul Goldberger mean by his description of the row house as “the underlying threads of the city’s urban fabric,”?
    • Is the row house only a historical building type, or are there contemporary examples?
    • Write one question you have from the article.
  • 2nd part of Assignment — SKETCHING:
  • Find a place (it could be in your neighborhood) to sit and sketch a partial street view of row houses. Or, make a sketch from a photo.
  • Your sketch should be a 1 or 2-point perspective.
