Poe

When I first started to read this story it somewhat caught me off guard, with the previous discussions we have had in class about homosexuality being an underlying theme that the gothic literature presents when the narrator began traveling with a man who he had just met made me think that this might be another instance of that homosexuality. Upon reading further into the story it became obvious that there were no instances of homosexuality in this story but lunatics. As this story progressed the narrator gave small hints of foreshadowing that may have the reader predict the ending. As the narrator looked around and saw everyone well dressed and costumed with the finest jewelry at first made this dinner to be very fancy and cordial. But as the story progressed the the actions of the guests were somewhat weird and lunatic like. Their accounts of what the inmates had done while spending time in the asylum, were good up until it they began to act out what the inmates were doing.  To go as far as standing on tables and running around the room acting out every account of the the inmates while dressed in their fancy clothes and fine jewelry was something weird looking at it from the readers perspective. And finally when the story came out about what happened with the uprising of the inmates inside the asylum was the last stand out evidence of foreshadowing the clue was almost to obvious to miss, this was an interesting story and had a great deal of foreshadowing to the average reader.
