There are connections between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde that considerably alters the way that we view them independently. Towards the end of the story we see the story through the eyes of Dr. Jekyll, and the way that he describes certain aspects of his transformation, really changed my view on him. He describes the transformation between himself and Mr. Hyde as a relief and basically welcomes the change. Tragically we do not know what unspeakable thing made him want to change into his alter ego in the first place. All that we do know is that he did many horrible things to people and did not feel pity over it. We are told that Mr. Hyde is smaller because he has been suppressed for so many years and that explains why he is measurably shorter than Dr. Jekyll. After a while so many transformations causes Mr. Hyde to come and go as he pleases without the need of a potion. That scared Jekyll and he decided to stop drinking the potion. He became a much better person after that, it is actually mentioned how much better he was becoming. He was not as frail as before. After a prolonged time without transforming, Jekyll could not hide Hyde any longer and decided to transform again. His urges increase tremendously so much so that after he morphs he lashes out. In certain ways you can connect Dr Jekyll to a drug user. He could not control a part of him that took control over him.
